Prime Minister Narendra Modi shook hands and talked with Nawaz Sharif


Prime Minister Narendra Modi shook hands and talked with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif for a few minutes in Paris yesterday,as the 21st session of the Conference of Parties or COP21, the global summit on climate change, began.
Three months after official talks between their nations broke down amid escalating diplomatic tensions and cross-border violence.
A picture released by the Indian Foreign Ministry on Monday showed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif offered a double handshake to a smiling Mr. Sharif.
A video, released by Mr. Sharif’s office, also captured the two leaders sitting side by side on a couch, deep in conversation.
Neither side has so far disclosed what the leaders were talking about or how long the meeting lasted
.

India-Pak series possible in Srilanka

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary and BJP member of Parliament (MP) Anurag Thakur has said that a cricket series with Pakistan was possible in Sri Lanka, a neutral venue.

He added, “But who will decide on holding the series? Will it be India’s media, residents, the government or cricket boards of both countries? Let’s have a discussion on this first.”

Thakur added, “The Indian team can’t travel to Pakistan. Looking at the security concerns, no international team travels to Pakistan. I think there should be no problem in holding the series in Sri Lanka.

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake has hit northeastern Afghanistan

The US Geological Survey is reporting that a magnitude 5.9 earthquake has hit northeastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan and Tajikistan.

The tremor struck 22 kilometres (14 miles) southwest of Ashkasham, 300 kilometres northeast of the Afghan capital Kabul, at a depth of 92.4 kilometres. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The quake, which occurred at 2.16am local time.The quake was felt across northern Afghanistan, northern Pakistan and in northern parts of India.

Girish karnad apologise
